Administrative set up
The district of Vaishali lies in the north Bihar region of the state. It is adjacent to Patna, Saran, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur districts of the state of Bihar. There are three subdivisions viz., Hajipur, Mahua and Mahnar. There are altogether sixteen Community Development Blocks in the district namely Vaishali, Paterhi Belsar, Lalganj, Bhagwanpur, Goraul, Chehra Kalan, Patepur, Mahua, Jandaha, Raja Pakar, Hajipur, Raghopur, Bidupur, Desri, Sahdai Buzurg, Mahnar. Hajipur(Nagar Parishad), Mahnar Bazar (Nagar Panchayat) and Lalganj (Nagar Panchayat ) are the three towns in the district. Total number of Gram Panchayats are 290 which consist of 1,569 villages of which 1,422 villages are inhabited and 147 villages are Uninhabited. Hajipur (Nagar Parishad) is the headquarter of the district.
District Magistrate is posted in the district who is the top most official of Revenue and civil administration. He belongs to I.A.S. cadre. District Magistrate conducts development and welfare works in the district. ADM and other officers are posted in order to help D.M. in the administration. The district has three subdivisions headed by subdivisional officers either from I.A.S. or B.P.S.C. cadre. S.D.O. is under direct authority of D.M. There are sixteen C.D. Blocks in the district where B.D.Os. are posted who undertake development and welfare projects.
Judicial Administration
The Judges and Munshif magistrates are posted at district and subdivisions who administer and deliver justice of different kind.The district judiciary is part of Indian judicial system as envisaged in Indian Constitution and independent of district administration.
Police Administration
The Superintendent of Police, Vaishali is the head of the district police administration who is generally from the Indian Police Service. In the subdivisions of the district, the Deputy Superintendents of Police are posted who keep control on police administration and belongs to Bihar Police Service
